The great mystery of Aladdin Center is also its brightest shining star. The Aladdin Shriners' Hospital Association for Children, Inc., reflects many rays of light and hope to Ohio children with orthopedic difficulties caused from accidents, injuries, sickness or birth. Not enough Aladdin Center members know what we do or how efficiently we operate. Aladdin's Hospital Association requirements for treatment are basically the same as those of the National Shrine Hospitals for Children, i.e. from birth to 18 years of age. We are one of three temples in all of North America permitted to maintain a Hospital Association, but not to build our own hospital facilities. We use local orthopedic surgeons. Examinations are conducted every first and third Wednesday mornings at the office and clinic of Dr. John Leach, located across from Riverside Methodist Hospital at 3722 Olentangy River Road in Columbus. Children may be admitted as a patient for operation procedures or other forms of treatment and rehabilitation. We may also use other surgeons in local hospitals anywhere in Aladdinland. Another ray of light and hope is reflected in our purchase of braces, artificial limbs, special shoes, wheelchairs and lifts, clinical rehabilitation treatments, expensive drugs, computers to help children communicate etc, all paid for by your Hospital Association. Aladdin Shriners' Hospital Association for Children Inc., also pays for transportation to and from any Shrine Hospital for the patient and their families. We also pay for the expenses of Aladdin Shriners Representatives as they travel to Board meetings at these locations monthly. Aladdin Shriners' Hospital Association for Children, Inc., also pays the cost of mailing the "Aladdin Lamp" to be sent to the widows of our former members, when they request continuance of this service. We can also be extremely proud of the efficient way we work within the prescribed budgets and expenditures approved by Shrine Hospitals. We are not allowed to advertise or request fund raisers, but are continually blessed by the many Shriners (and non-Shriners) who send us gifts and memorials and place our Association in their wills. It is truly heart warming. Each year, funds in excess of expenses are distributed too our Shrine Hospitals and local children's programs throughout Aladdinland. Individual Clubs are asked to make suggestions of worthy causes associated with children. The Aladdin Shriners' Hospital Association for Children, Inc., is a corporation governed by a Board of Trustees "composed of not more than fifteen outstanding citizens of Columbus or Central Ohio, all of whom shall be members of Aladdin Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S." The bylaws require that the Potentate, Chief Rabban, Assistant Rabban, Treasurer and Recorder of Aladdin Temple shall be members of the Board of Trustees. The other ten members of the Board shall be elected by the membership of the Temple. Nobles are urged to recommend any child they believe will qualify for treatment by the Association. This can be done by contacting Harry C. Webster, Secretary-Administrator of the Association at the Aladdin Business Office. |
