The Shriners Creed

Shriners believe in God and that He created man to serve His purposes, among which is service to others in His name. We believe that care for the less fortunate, especially children who suffer from burns and crippling diseases, is our institutional calling.

We are patriots, each willing to serve his country with fidelity and courage. We cherish independence under law and freedom with responsibility. We Honor family. We respect our parents, wives and children. We should instill in our children the tenets of this creed and the heritage from which it emanates.

As individuals we pledge ourselves to integrity, virtue and nobility of character. Our intentions will be honorable, our relations will be trustworthy and our spirits forgiving of each other. As brothers we offer each other fraternal affection and respect. Together we will support each other in adherence to this creed, so that we and our communities will be the better because of our fraternity and its principles.

As Shriners we look beyond ourselves to serve the needs of others, especially children who cannot help themselves. We believe Shriners Hospitals to be the world's greatest philanthropy, and we covenant with each other to support its "temples of mercy" with spirit, time, talent and means.

I Am A Shriner Because...

...It is a fulfillment of my devout devotion to the principles of Freemasonry - through the prerequisite degrees of Shrinedom.

...It extends to me, in greater numbers, the warm hand of Fellowship and Brotherly Love - the priceless ingredients of man's quest for happiness.

...It furthers my Masonic adherence to Love of God, Love of Country and Love of Freedom.

...It enables me to participate in one of the worlds great monuments to humanitarian devotion - Shriners' Hospitals for Children - that caring for our orthopedically challenged and burned young, regardless of race or creed.

...Through Fellowship and Service, it strengthens my soul and adds inner meaning to my daily life. It thus spreads a glow of joy through my entire family.

What Masonry is:

What Masonry is not:

It is a voluntary association of men.

It is a system of moral conduct.

It is a way of life.

It is a fraternal society.

It is religious in its character.

It teaches the Golden Rule.

It seeks to make good men better men.

It teaches morality through symbolism.

It uses rites and ceremonies to instruct its members.

It is based on a firm belief in the Fatherhood of God, The Brotherhood of Man, and the immortality of the Soul.

It does not solicit members.

It is not an insurance or benefit society.

It is neither a religion nor a creed
nor a religious order.

It is not a charity organization, but makes charity a duty.

It is not organized for profit.

It dictates to no man as to his beliefs, either religious or secular.

It seeks no advantages for its member through business or politics.

It is not a forum for discussion of religion, politics or other partisan affairs.

It is not a secret society, as it does not conceal its existence or purposes.
