Facts Every Noble Should Know

Advertising

Solicitation of paid advertising for official Shrine Center and club publications is permitted, other than for beer or liquor. News or advertising of raffles or door prizes is forbidden

Aladdin's Lamp

Aladdin's Lamp is the monthly publication reporting Aladdin Shrine Center plans and programs and is free to Nobles of this Center.

When a Noble is visited by the Black Camel, his widow will continue to receive The Lamp until the end of the current year. Then if she wants to continue receiving The Lamp she should contact the Recorders Office.

Complaints

Complaints or correspondence from individual Nobles and Shrine Clubs on Centers or Imperial Council matters should be addressed to the Potentate of Aladdin Shrine Center.

Fez

The official headpiece dates back to A.D. 980, deriving its name from Fez, Morocco, where it was first made commercially. The Fez was mentioned in "Arabian Nights." Wearing the Fez on occasions other than those approved by the potentate is not approved. Unauthorized wording, pins, or other decorations on the Fez is prohibited.

Immoral Practices

Aladdin Shrine Center condemns all immoral and vulgar practices and illusions in initiations and printed notices issued to members. The presiding officer is held responsible for such vulgarity or obscenity.

Jurisdiction

Aladdin Shrine has concurrent jurisdiction throughout the State of Ohio with Al Koran, Antioch, Tadmor, Syrian and Zenobia Shrine Center, except in the counties where the Centers are located. Also in concurrent jurisdiction with El Hasa Shrine  Center of Ashland, Kentucky, are Lawrence and Scioto Counties, Ohio. Belmont and Monroe Counties are subject to concurrent jurisdiction with Osiris Shrine Center, Wheeling, West Virginia. We also have concurrent jurisdiction with Osiris Shrine in Brooke and in Hancock Counties located in West Virginia.

Membership List

No roster of the Center or a Club shall ever be furnished for use in circularization or solicitation for business purposes.

Motor Vehicles

Every motor vehicle owned or operated by a Shrine club must be reported by the Shrine President to the Potentate each January 1. Such vehicles must be operated five feet or more away from curb or spectators, always within the line of march and never in a building.

No objects, candy or other, shall be thrown from the vehicle. The vehicle may be used only when covered by full public liability and property damage insurance in the names of both the club and Aladdin Shrine - No less than $1,000,000. The Potentate shall be kept informed that such insurance is in force. Copy of the policy must be filed in the Recorder's office.

Pledge of Allegiance

Altered in deference to Shrines and Clubs in other nations, such as Canada, Mexico and Panama, The pledge is: "I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the country for which it stands; one nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all."

Politics

No Shrine club or group operating under Aladdin Jurisdiction shall engage in any political activity or endorse any candidate for public office.

Prayer

During prayer, the Fez is removed and held in the right hand over the heart.

Salute

When wearing the Fez, the Military salute is used while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and during playing of the National Anthem.

Salute to Flag

A Noble wearing the Fez will execute a right hand salute when colors are within six paces, but he will not remove his Fez. After colors pass, he will drop his hand. Should the same colors pass twice, as during parade or ceremonial, he is not required to salute a second time.

Shrine club Officers

Each club should have a President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chairman, Medical Director and Publicity Chairman. "All elective officers must be members in good standing of Aladdin Temple." (Article IX  -  By-Laws).

The President is the Noble to whom the illustrious Potentate and Recorder of Aladdin Shrine look to for leadership and activity of Shrine Affairs in the club. (Article IX  -  By-Laws).

Sick Visitation

Illness of a Noble should be reported promptly to the Sunshine Committee which will investigate and arrange suitable visits. Clubs outside Columbus should report confinement of Nobles in Columbus hospitals to the Recorder, who will arrange visits.
