Shriners Hospital $100 Million club - What you should know...

THE PROBLEM - Each Noble of the Mystic Shrine of North America contributes $5.00 annually to the support of 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children. This raises less than 20% of the cost to operate them. Earnings on the Shrine Endowment Fund provides $4.00 out of every $5.00 of the hospitals operating income.

Because of ever-rising costs to operate our hospitals, it is important that the Endowment Fund be increased substantially so that its earnings continue to cover these increasing hospital operating costs.

THE SOLUTION - in 1972, the ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR club was established to aid in the substantial increase needed in he Endowment Fund. If each of the 600,000 Shriners will leave $100.00 or more in his will, or make a cash contribution of $100.00, the endowment Fund will grow by SIXTY MILLION DOLLARS.

Much will come from your gift. More happens at the Shriners Hospitals for Children than the curing or materially aiding of children. There is training, research, new methods, new cures and much more. Did you know that one-third of all practicing Orthopedic Surgeons in the United States have received training at a Shriners Hospital? $100.00 represents 10 cents per bed for 1032 beds in the 22 hospitals. But it's putting these 10 cents per bed together that will keep that bed ready and useful for a small body that needs to be mended or helped.

Contributions may be in the form of cash securities, real estate, life insurance or a charitable remainder trust. In preference to outright gifts and outright bequests, Nobles may wish to provide for a "gift in trust," use life insurance in charitable gift planning, donate appreciated property, or take advantage of the Shrine Hospitals "Pooled Income Fund" under which an investment income will be paid to the donor during his or her lifetime.

More than 12% of the Shrine's international membership are members of the $100 Million Dollar club. It is important for the future of Shriners Hospitals for Children that Aladdin Temple supports this program in an outstanding manner. Remember, the club is now open to the public. Sign up for the club if you have not already done so - and invite a friend to participate.

Some of the more popular gifts include:

Cash Contributions

A minimum of $100.00 cash contributed now or by a bequest in the will is convenient for many persons.

Securities

Security contributions may be easily accomplished. If the donor's securities have appreciated in value at the time of the gift, there may be income tax and other advantages to him.

Real Estate

Real estate may be deeded outright to this charity or, if it is the donor's residence or farm, may be given subject to retained life interests.

Life Income Agreement

This can be accomplished through contributions to the SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN "Pooled Income Fund" Under this arrangement, donors, or their designee, will receive the income during their lifetime.

Trusts

Irrevocable charitable remainder unitrusts or annuity trusts may be established to provide for lifetime payments to the named beneficiary(ies). At the death of the surviving income beneficiary, assets would be utilized by SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN for its charitable purposes.

Insurance

SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN may be designated as the irrevocable beneficiary of an insurance policy.
