Membership Policies

Requirements

All Symbolic Lodge Master Masons with membership in good standing in their Blue Lodge are eligible for membership in the Shrine.

A petitioner must be a resident for at least six months within the jurisdiction of Aladdin Shrine Center. Residence is defined as the place where the applicant in good faith makes his home.

Aladdin Shrine Center may receive and act upon the petition of one whose residence is not within the jurisdiction of another Center.

Any member of the Armed Forces of the United States, Canada, Mexico, or Panama may petition for membership in Aladdin Shrine if he is stationed within our jurisdiction, without reference to his actual place of residence, and thereupon, after election, be initiated and become a Noble of Aladdin Shrine Center. He, of course, must be in good standing in his Symbolic Lodge.

A Noble may apply for membership by affiliation in a second Center and if accepted by the second Center, thereafter holds an associate membership therein.

Past Imperial Potentate Robert N. Turnipseed has issued the following guidance:

  • Each Shriner must remember that he is a Mason as well as a Shriner, and he should govern himself accordingly.

  • Each Shriner should remain (or become) active in his Mason Lodge and all Masonic Activities.

  • Each Shriner should redouble his efforts to see that more qualified individuals become Masons. By doing this, he will be exemplifying one of the cardinal tenets of Freemasonry, that is, to make good men better.

  • Those Shriners who are Scottish or York Rite members should retain their membership - do not react negatively, always react positively. Those who are not Scottish or York Rite members should seriously consider becoming Scottish and York Rite members. The Rites do provide "more light in Masonry."

  • Remember that as we succeed in our efforts to bring more men into Masonry, this creates a larger pool of Brothers who will become eligible to join the Scottish and York Rites, as well as the Shrine.

Termination

Unit Director and Shrine club Officers should be alert to the termination of membership in the prerequisite Masonic bodies and all such terminations should be reported to the Recorder of Aladdin Shrine.

Delinquent Members

Because of illness or financial distress, there may be those to whom the payment of annual dues becomes a hardship. Whenever such a Noble becomes delinquent, the Recorder may contact you. It then becomes your duty to investigate the reasons for such delinquency and report it to the Recorder. Suspension of a Masonic brother and Noble from the rights and privileges of the Shrine may thus be avoided.
