Tabloid Day - Truly the greatest day of the year in Aladdinland. This is the most concentrated effort that our Shrine has where 100% of the net proceeds go to the operations of the World's Greatest Philanthropy our Shriners Hospitals & Burns Institutes for Children. Every Noble in Aladdinland should take part in this. The great success story behind Tabloid is the result of many Nobles who give of their time and talent to make this program the huge success that it has become. Each Noble that participates is entitled to stand a little taller because he has contributed to this very important cause. The Aladdin Shriners Tabloid is published and distributed one day each year with three objectives: To tell our story about our Shriners' hospitals to the general public; To explain how treatment can be obtained for the children; To raise funds to help in the operation of our hospitals, 19 Orthopedic and 3 Burns Institutes. 1978 was the first year that we distributed the Tabloid and we took in a total of $21,252. Thank goodness, Tabloid caught on with the Nobility and they saw what it was doing to help our Children and we have set many records since then. Our Grand total for the past 27 years is $4,218,796.89! While your Temple Tabloid Committee is responsible for the production, distribution and generally helping each club in anyway they can, it is the individual Shrine Clubs who get the paper out in their local communities that make this effort the great success that it is. Nobles, we thank you. This is a much needed program because the cost of the hospital operations go up every year and so must our collections. In the year 2005 Shriners Hospitals for Children will increase its spending for children by $100,000 every 24 hours. The organization will spend $1.7 million every day or $19 every second to continue to give expert medical care to children. You can see why we need every Noble working on this most important of projects. Is it a bargain? You bet it is. Your committee reports that this past year we operated on less than 10 cents per dollar. Ninety cents of every dollar collected went to the operation of our hospitals. Name me another charity that can top that. It is very important to note that the Tabloid is not sold but is given away. However, we will accept all contributions that are offered for the Hospitals because of it. Everyone that will accept a Tabloid gets one. We used 300,000 copies this past June.
